Hi there everyone I am Mim. I was born in the UK in July 1963 and have lived here all my life. I am married to the most wonderful man and have a 12 year old son who is the light of my life. We have 4 cats (all spoilt) and live our merry little life in Blackheath, London.
I have worked in offices all my working life (taking a 6 year break to care for my terminally ill son). At present I work in an office in a primary school and enjoy every minute of it. The children are great, as are the staff I have the pleasure of working with.
In my spare time I take tap dancing classes and have recently taken up a samba reggae drumming club, it is invigorating to say the least. I read avidly and also enjoy using my treadmill, when aches and pains allow.
I was diagnosed with Sjogrens roughly 7 years ago. It started with haemorrhaging in my legs, which I went to the GP about, he also took note of various other things going on and sent me for blood tests. These came back positive, and just to be on the safe side I then had various eye tests and a lip biopsy. All came back positive so voila there I was diagnosed!
The following few years saw a marked decline in my health; I have developed an underactive thyroid, Reynaud's, rheumatoid arthritis, dry mouth and eyes, IBS, vasculitis, numb spots, neuropathy and extremely dry skin, and that is on a good day, can’t go into a bad day I can tell you!
After being diagnosed, and not finding anyone who had even heard of it, much less knew anything about it, I decided to search for it on the internet. That is how I found the Sjogrens World website, and I can’t say how pleased I am to have found it. Not only have I discovered a mine of information and advice, I have met some very very nice people and I think made some good friends (they may disagree but they can not escape me now ((evil chuckle)) so they are sort of stuck with me.
I have now been given the honour of a staff place on the sjs world team and am extremely grateful for their belief in me and their willingness to let me loose on people during chat – THEY ARE A BRAVE LOT -
I am looking forward to being part of such a successful project and only hope I can do it justice.
Many thanks
Mim
